In the past, paper declarations had to be requested and submitted, but nowadays,
we handle everything electronically.
For electronic transport declarations, customs uses the Transit system, DVA (Customs Transport Application).
In Transit, making a declaration involves sending an electronic message to Customs.
We are authorized to do this because we hold a ‘permit for electronically declaring customs transport.
We enter the data for the transport declaration in Transit. The declaration must include, among other things, a departure office and a destination office (with their respective DVA codes).
Customs offices connected to DVA are listed in the European Commission’s list of customs offices.
What is a T1 / T2 document?
When creating a DVA (T1/T2) document, you can think of:
- T2 documents for transport from Switzerland to Italy (transit document for Switzerland)
- T2 documents for transport from Switzerland to Greece (transit document for Switzerland)
- T1 documents for transport between customs warehouses
T1 documents for transport to the ports of Rotterdam or Antwerp
